Marram grass planting
Van Aalsburg B.V. not only installs sand screens but also takes care of the planting of marram grass, also known as dune grass. It is a stout, tough, grey-green pioneer species that protects the dunes from the impact of wind and water and is therefore important for dune formation. Marram grass produces long rhizomes, which penetrate deep into the soil and constantly produce new plants. Marram grass is well-adapted to strong winds and drift sands. The plant can cope with an increase of a metre of drift sand per year; the grass continues to grow above the sand. In combination with sand screens, marram grass is a tried and tested (as well as economical) means of coastal conservation, including coastal dunes. It is therefore applied on a large scale.
Planting is done in close cooperation with the customer. Together, we assess the condition of the dunes and determine the number of plants per m². We carry out control measurements ourselves using GPS. After completion of the project, As-built drawings are delivered in DWG or DXF files.
The importance of this is often underestimated. The As-built drawings or revision drawings form the basis for maintenance. They offer you quick and direct insight into the current situation.
Van Aalsburg B.V. uses this dune grass for private individuals and public bodies.
